DR Mike Adenuga Jr, Globacom’s chairman, has declared that the network Glo is building in Ghana would be the best in Africa.
In a message at the 2009 Glo-CAF Awards held at the State House Banquet Hall, Accra, Ghana, Adenuga said Globacom had deployed the best telecommunications technology to build a robust network capable of offering seamless, world class mobile and data services.
He affirmed that Glo Mobile Ghana would commence operations this year. “In the next few months, you will start to experience a communication network the like of which has never been experienced in Ghana before. This year, we have made enormous progress and the progress will be felt right here on the streets of Ghana very soon,” he declared.
“We have been building a mobile network in Ghana that really will be second to none. I am sure that you have seen all of our billboards on the streets and I assure you they are not empty promises. Over the last year, we have also been laying our own multi-million dollar submarine cable, Glo 1, all the way from Europe, connecting through to the States and crossing the Atlantic to Africa’s West Coast. It has already landed in Accra and it will literally change the way that Africa does business.”
He added that the facility would for the first time provide Ghanaians, Nigerians and Africans at large an almost unlimited bandwidth and high-speed internet connection between the region and the rest of the world. This, he explained, would make all telecom services much faster, much more reliable and much cheaper for everyone.
“And it will stimulate a new era of prosperity across the continent by facilitating everything from distance learning to video conferencing, new TV channels, online medical diagnostics and full telemedicine services. And what’ more, it has sufficient capacity to cater for the region’s requirements for years to come,” Adenuga said.
The Ghanaian government had at the event described Globacom as a company all Africans should be proud of. John Dramani Mahama, vice president of the country, who represented President John Atta Mills, commended Globacom for its commitment to the development of Africa.
