A Nigerian, Obiamaka Madubuko, has been named one of 40 Under Forty Dynamic Achievers. She will be profiled in the June edition of The Network Journal’s magazine.
“It is an honor to be recognized by The Network Journal and to be counted among these dynamic and outstanding professionals. I truly enjoy the challenges of legal work and providing my clients with high-quality service and results. I hope to build on this momentum and to expand my practice to assist more multi-national companies with their compliance counseling and litigation needs,” commented Ms. Madubuko.
Ms. Madubuko focuses her practice on anti-corruption and fraud matters, particularly in emerging markets like Sub-Saharan Africa and China. She is an experienced white-collar criminal defense litigator who also advises U.S. based companies doing business in international markets. Ms. Madubuko advises companies on a host of compliance and transactional due diligence issues arising under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Office of Foreign Asset Control and other global trade regulations. In addition, she assists clients that are undertaking internal investigations and independent audits concerning critical matters. She also helps clients draft, evaluate and update their corporate policies to ensure compliance with anti-corruption and other global trade laws.
Additionally, Ms. Madubuko is an experienced trial lawyer. She has over a decade of experience defending individuals and corporations in complex civil litigation and white-collar criminal cases in state and federal courts. For example, Ms. Madubuko successfully defended a client accused of federal fraud, racketeering, extortion and bribery violations in a three month, multiple defendant jury trial in federal court.
Ms. Madubuko is also active in various pro bono activities including representing clients in domestic violence, immigration and asylum cases as well as mentoring lawyers, law students and high school students interested in pursuing careers in law. As an associate, Obiamaka participated in an externship program with the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia where she served as lead counsel on over 35 cases. Obiamaka also chairs McDermott’s Women of Color Subcommittee to the Gender Diversity Committee and is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and New York City Bar Association.
Launched in June 1998, The Network Journal’s 40 Under-Forty Black Achievement Awards honors men and women under 40 years old whose professional accomplishments have significantly impacted an industry or profession, and who also have made an important contribution to their community.
A “TNJ40Under-Forty” honoree typically is a business owner, or a management executive with significant decision-making authority in the corporate, nonprofit (including academia and medicine), or government sector. A committee of judges reviews each year’s candidates and their supporting material and makes the final selection for the year’s honorees.
Each honoree receives a specially designed crystal award at the annual “40 Under-Forty Achievement Awards” program, held in June and attended by more than hundreds of business leaders, colleagues and well wishers.
