AS a way of bringing more value to telephoning experience of Nigerians, Starcomms Plc has introduced its lower tariff StarZone package in more cities in the country. Customers of Starcomms in Abeokuta, Maiduguri, Bauchi, Jos, Umuahia and Sapele are now on StarZone.  The package was first introduced in Benin-City, Owerri, Uyo, Warri, Katsina, Enugu, Ogbomosho, Nnewi and Awka a few weeks ago and has been recording an overwhelming participation by customers in these cities.
Customers in Star-Zone cities have the opportunity of making on-net calls for N4 per minute during peak and off-peak period. So travellers into any of these cities from anywhere in Nigeria will also enjoy lower tariff on on-net Starcomms calls for as long as they are there.
According to Mr. Tushar Maheshwari, chief commercial officer of Starcomms, the success recorded in the response of the people in the first set of cities on the StarZone package inspired the company to extend the gesture to other cities. Meanwhile, once a customer leaves the any of the StarZone cities for a place like Lagos, he will no longer enjoy the benefits of the Star-Zone option.  Maheshwari said also that the Star-zone rate is applicable only to prepaid customers.
“On a regular basis, we strive to ensure that the best telephone services that Nigerians get come from Starcomms. That is why we seek every way to add value to the experience they get from us always,” he said. “StarZone is another way of caring for Starcomms customers in a special way. As a Nigerian company, we are determined to continue giving our customers top-of-the-range services that would not hurt their pocket.”
In line with this, the company just expanded its network by deploying more cell sites on air in diverse locations across the country. This new step will boost the quality of service that customers enjoy on the Starcomms network.
Cell sites are used for the transmission of radio waves, to which calls are converted, from one cell phone or data device to another phone or data device on the same network or on other networks. Where there are enough cell sites to cover a wide area, the range of each is set to ensure that there is enough overlap for “handover” to and from others. The size of a site depends on the area of coverage that’s needed and the number of calls that are made in that area.  Increasing the number of sites implies that Starcomms has the capacity to accept and transmit more number of calls as well as cover a wider geographical range, giving out clearer signals.
Speaking further on the services of Starcomms, Maheshwari said “beyond making it easy for our customers to talk, Starcomms is committed to providing quality, cutting-edge and affordable telecommunications services. The services that we make available to our customers are generally tailored towards making their lives easier and better. It is a commitment that we hold very dear in our relationship with them.”
