THE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commissioned modern toilet facilities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

THE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commissioned modern toilet facilities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The authority said the commissioning of toilet facilities is a milestone in the airport improvement plan of MMIA, which it started as far back as 2008.
Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun, managing director of FAAN who did the commissioning recently said it is one of the major steps that the authority is taking to ensure that the users of our facilities, the travelling public gets the best of convenience and of course get the best satisfaction when they use the airport. According to him, out of the 19 modern toilets commissioned 17 have been completed while the remaining two are now at 90 per cent completion stage. “In another few days, the remaining two will be completed. But because we believe that as part of our package for the year 2011 for our travelling customers who use the airports, we must make these facilities available and that is why we have chosen to commission this facility at the airport today,” he said.
He thanked the team that handled the project and also the  minister of aviation who drove this process by insisting that the existing toilets must be refurbished immediately and make it a world class modern toilet facilities for the convenience of the travelling public that use the airport.
Aisuebeogun assured that the entire management of FAAN will continue to improve the facilities “because we know that what the whole world wants to see is an improvement in our infrastructure, which have been left to decay over the years.
“Let me say that the rehabilitation of these infrastructure will take a long time to come, but what is key is that on a continuous basis, there is an improvement in the infrastructure that we are putting in place and I want to assure everyone of you that this is just the beginning of the infrastructure that is going to be improved upon. In another couple of months, without disclosing, I’m going to be inviting you back again for another major infrastructure that we have rehabilitated and we will be commissioning,” he explained.
The managing director further said that Faan is working on improving the passenger facilitation in its ramification, “which of course includes the conveyor belts system.
“I’m pleased to inform you that the award for the conveyor belt has been done and the company that won the award is already mobilised, they have designed and they are working right now in Netherlands for the replacement of the existing carousals and the conveyor belt systems that we have at this airport.
He noted that the conveyor belts at MMIA are over 30 years old and have continuously been managed.  However,he promised that this would be replaced completely this year as part of 2010 project implementation of the federal government.
His words, “I want to assure you that in six months, we will have brand new conveyor belts system serving the MMIA and of course the congestions and delays will be a thing of the past. Those things that used to give us headache will be things of the past.”
