Last Friday, May 6, 2011, at around 10.00pm, just as the office was about closing production activities, BusinessWorld corporate office came under attack from heavily-armed robbers who came in through the front doors.
Five of the armed robbers came in while others kept sentry outside. They were armed with AK-47 assault rifles, locally-made guns and machetes and announced themselves as armed robbers.
The armed robbers asked all members of the editorial staff in the newsroom to lie down flat on their faces after which they went about ransacking everywhere, looking for anything they could lay their hands upon. 
They carted away all the laptops, mobile handsets, purses and ATM cards belonging to editorial staff and other personal belongings. They beat and assaulted some of the staff members asking them to surrender their valuables.
They smashed other desktop computers in anger.
They went upstairs, attacked the editor and deputy editor, and collected cash in their possessions. They collected N350,000 from the Editor and N220,000 from the Deputy Editor respectively. They also collected the sum of N34,000 from a production staff and another N39,000 meant for production miscellaneous expenses. They broke down all the doors upstairs in an attempt to collect more valuables.
They later locked all editorial staff in the Production Office before they vanished into the night.
The entire office was turned upside down. They asked for the Chairman of the company who was not around.
