The Governors forum is now a competitive team and members try to out-do the other in developing their respective states.
Governor Babatunde Fashola who disclosed this at a public forum in Washington D.C. stated that there is now a strong pair review mechanism going round in the forum that energizes governors to b development conscious and work harder for their people.
Speaking at the Navy Army Club in Washington D.C. at a luncheon organized by  United States Constituency for Africa (CFA) in Washington DC,    Fashola told his audience made up of potential investors and professionals, that Lagos State benchmarks its development strategies on states in developed countries and not from within the country. Describing Lagos as a global city hosting over 18 million people, he said the State has same challenges of health, education, communication as those of any other large city in the world except that the intensity differs.
He however pointed out that under his watch the State has made modest progress by charting a paradigm of development of restoring it to its place of prominence. Thanking Lagosians for giving him the mandate to continue as governor in the next four years during the just concluded elections, Fashola said that the political will to effect change is there and he plans to now raise the bar and redefine his goals. Commenting on the April 2011 general elections, the Lagos State governor said the success of the elections constituted the agenda of the government for a long time and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for conducting elections whose standard witnessed what he called, “visible acceptability.”  “The message therein , going forward is to build on socio-economic stability as lack of political stability has been responsible for the fragile democracy over the years,” Fashola stated.
He in particular commended President Goodluck Jonathan for distancing himself from the negative image of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and sending his message out.
