Durham University, one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom, has announced that it is offering scholarship to students from the West Africa. BusinessWorld Intelligence can disclose that this is the first time the British institution will be offering full scholarships for prospective postgraduate students from the West African sub region.
BusinessWorld Intelligence can also disclose that the scholarships being offered to the West African students is in the form of a full tuition fee waiver. The scholarships, which will be effective September next year, are aimed at students wishing to study postgraduate courses in science or business.
The decision by the British institution to offer the scholarships coincided with a visit of representatives from Durham University to Nigeria. The visit, which is in collaboration with the British Council, the UK Trade and Investment, is aimed at exploring partnerships and student recruitment initiatives.  
Sharne Procter, International Director at Durham University, said the university have, for a very long time, benefited from academic involvement in West Africa, particularly in Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone. Procter said the institution is delighted to offer these university-funded scholarships to the brightest students in the region. Founded in 1832, Durham University is England’s third oldest university after Oxford and Cambridge.  It is a world-class university offering a full range of programmes from Foundation to Doctoral level in disciplines such as Business, Engineering, Health, Science, Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.
