The Australian Government, Australian Universities and organizations offer a variety of scholarships in Australia for international students, who want to study abroad in Australia. These international scholarships are either for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, vocational education and training. Below this page is a list of scholarships in Australia for international students from Africa and developing countries. Take your time to go through the programs to find the ones you are eligible to apply. Also note that while some of these scholarship applications are still open, some deadlines may have passed. But don’t worry; most of the scholarships are awarded annually. Take note of the time of the year applications open, and check back.
(1) Australian Development Scholarships (ADS).
The Australia Awards for Africa is an initiative of the Australian Government aimed to maximize the benefit of the Australian Government’s extensive scholarship programs, and to support enduring ties between Australia and neighboring African, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Caribbean and Latin America Countries. Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) are available for full-time Postgraduate Diploma or Master Degree studies at Australian universities. You are eligible for an Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) if you are a citizen of one of the participating African countries, resident in your home country and meet any relevant country specific criteria.
(2) Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Scholarships
The Australian Leadership Award Scholarships (ALA Scholarships) are long term development awards, aimed at addressing priority development areas by enhancing leadership and building partnerships and linkages within developing countries. Up to 200 ALA Scholarships are available on an annual basis for high achieving applicants wishing to undertake postgraduate (Masters or PhD level) study at an Australian higher education institution.
(3) The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Fellowships
Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Fellowships aim to develop leadership, address priority regional development issues, and builds partnerships and linkages between Australian organizations and partner organizations in developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East.

(4) Universities in Australia Scholarships for International Students
Macquarie University 2012/2013 Scholarships for International Students
Macquarie University International Scholarships are available across most courses to cover international tuition fees for study on campus at North Ryde in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree. The scholarship provides course fees for the minimum course duration. Applicants must: Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand. (5) Australia- 2011 International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)
The University of Adelaide offers The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships for the 2011 academic year to high performing overseas postgraduate students in Australia. The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Approximately 15 scholarships may be available in 2011 for international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in areas of the University research strengths. Deadline:31st August, 2011
(6) Australia- Hotel and Resort Management International Scholarships 2011
The Government of Australia offers scholarships to international students to study Hotel and Resort Management in Australia for 2011 academic year. To be eligible for the scholarship applicants must:*not be a citizen of Australia or New Zealand or a permanent resident of Australia;*satisfy Australian Government Visa requirements for international student entry to Australia; *not hold a current Australian Government Scholarship;

(7) Western Australian Department of Education Undergraduate Scholarships
The Western Australian Department of Education (DoE) offers a number of scholarships for international students. Some of these scholarships provide the full tuition fee for either the WAUFP or the WACE Program. In addition, the DoE also offers a number of partial scholarships for international students to undertake the WAUFP or WACE Program at Tuart College.
(8) 15 Adelaide Fee Scholarships for International Students
The Adelaide Fee Scholarship International (AFSI) offers Up to 15 available scholarships in 2011 to outstanding international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in any academic discipline at the University of Adelaide.
(9) Adelaide Postgraduate Scholarships- University of Adelaide- Australia
The University of Adelaide offers scholarships scheme for international students undertaking postgraduate coursework (Not Research) study. The selection for these scholarships is extremely competitive. Up to six scholarships may be available to outstanding international students from any country to undertake a postgraduate degree by coursework in any academic discipline. (10 ) Australia- Undergraduate Scholarships-University of Adelaide
The University of Adelaide offers a scholarships scheme for international students undertaking undergraduate study. Up to nine Adelaide Outstanding Achiever Scholarship International (AOASI) are available to international students from any country undertaking study in any academic discipline except Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)Benefits are the waiver of full tuition fees for the normal duration of the program, subject to satisfactory performance.
(11) PhD/Master Research Scholarships 2010/11 for International Students-Edith Cowan University.
The Graduate Research School of Edith Cowan University Western Australia offers PhD and Master Research Scholarships for the 2010/11 session to International Students at University. The EIPRS scheme is prestigious and highly competitive. In 2009 three EIPRS scholarships and four ECU-IPRS were offered for tenure at Edith Cowan University.  Application DEADLINE: 31 August 2010 every year.
(12) International Undergraduate Scholarships at University of Queensland (UQ).
UQ International offers a limitedS number of scholarship opportunities for outstanding international students intending to study in an undergraduate program at The University of Queensland (UQ).To be eligible for a UQ International scholarship, you must be a newly commencing international student and able to study in Australia on a student visa.
Application deadline: 31 October the prior year for a Semester 1 commencement
30 April the same year for a Semester 2 commencement
(13) Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship in ICT- University of Technology Sydney .
The University of Technology Sydney offers students the opportunity to obtain an engineering undergraduate qualification at the University through the Undergraduate International Engineering Scholarship in Information Communication Technology (ICT). The scholarship is also open to diploma holders. The scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fees commencing from the first semester of study for a period of four years. The closing date for this scholarship Application for Spring Semester (July start) will be in June Annually; for Autumn (February start) will be in December.
(14). International Students Scholarship- University of Sydney
The University of Sydney, Australia, invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research or Master’s by Research degree program in any course of study at the University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS).International students from any country wishing to pursue a postgraduate research program at the University are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded to eligible applicants twice a year - in October/November in conjunction with the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) for commencement in Semester 1(March), and in early April for commencement in Semester 2 (July).Applications for admission to a research degree MUST be received by the International Office by 31 July, DEADLINE of the previous year.
(15). Dr Abdul Kalam International Scholarships in Australia -Engineering and information technology.
The University of Sydney offers the Dr Abdul Kalam International Scholarships in Engineering & Information Technologies for new international students commencing in 2012. Ten (10) Scholarships will be available for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Coursework programs. Deadline: 31 October 2011 for Semester 1, 2012, and 30 April 2012 (for Semester 2, 2012).
(16). Sydney Achievers International Scholarships 2012 Australia
The Sydney Achievers International Scholarships (undergraduate and postgraduate) are prestigious scholarship awards offered at the University of Sydney for new international students commencing at the University in 2012. The scholarships are aimed at attracting high achieving, academically meritorious international students to study undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University. Deadline: 31 October 2011 (Semester 1, 2012) and 30 April 2012 (Semester 2, 2012)
(17).International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) Australia 2011/2012
The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) awards are offered for full-time study towards higher degrees by research in Universities in Australia. IPRS are funded by the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The IPR Scholarship is highly competitive. Only applicants with extensive research training and experience will be offered an award.
(18).University of Western Sydney - UWS
 may also offer University funded awards called UWS International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (UWSIPRS). These awards carry the same stipend and conditions as the government funded IPRS. Applicants do not need to apply separately for these awards. All applicants for the IPRS are automatically considered for the UWSIPRS if they are not offered an IPRS.Application Deadline: Applications close on Wednesday 31 August 2011.
