Delta has announced that it is investing more than $2 billion through 2013 in airport facilities and global products, services and technology to enhance the customer experience both in the air and on the ground.
In view of this, the airline has introduced a series of product upgrades for the Nigerian market which include a new full flat-bed BusinessElite seat on flights between Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport and New York-JFK, via Accra, Ghana and a new dedicated Delta protocol service at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Delta said the upgraded seats will be available on its Abuja service this week. Customers flying in BusinessElite will enjoy 77-inch, 180-degree full-flat beds in a one-two-one configuration, which allows each customer direct aisle access and enhanced privacy.   The airline said it is enhancing its onboard product on more than 150 aircraft to offer full flat-bed seating in BusinessElite on all international wide body flights.
Also the airline recently launched its nonstop service between Abuja and Accra in co-operation with Air Nigeria, which commenced on December 1.   According to the international carrier the new Delta service which will feature the upgraded seat will provide more travel options for Delta’s customers. “We are delighted to be working with Air Nigeria and with their support offer nonstop service between Nigeria and Ghana,” said Bobby Bryan, sales manager West and East Africa,” the airline said.
“The new service will feature our new business product which optimises each passenger’s space, giving them privacy to work or relax in order to arrive at their destination ready for a day’s business.”
Meanwhile, BusinessElite customers departing Lagos will be able to take advantage of a new protocol service - the airport concierge, which service offers a personal escort for its business customers through check-in, customs and immigration, lounge pick up and luggage assistance.
“Delta’s frequent business travellers tell us that they want a seamless experience when they travel.  With over 50,000 passengers carried by Delta between Lagos and the United States this year, our protocol service ensures that our business customers will enjoy a smooth transit through the entire airport experience,” it said.
Service will be marketed and sold by Air Nigeria pursuant to a codeshare agreement with Delta.  At this time, Delta cannot sell local traffic between Accra and Abuja.
Delta now operates service to six African cities in five countries, having grown from 22 weekly departures to and from Africa in December 2006 to more than 44 weekly departures in winter 2011.
Through the hubs in Atlanta and New York-JFK, Delta offers an unsurpassed network of hundreds of convenient onward connections to popular destinations for Nigerian travellers such as Atlanta, New York, Washington, Los Angeles, and Houston.
