Banks, Telecoms, Insurance, Others Storm Kwara Football Academy for Investment

NO less than 40 leading banks, insurance companies, telecommunication firms and other leading players in the Nigerian economy have confirmed their visit to the Kwara Football Academy (KFA) Ilorin on Tuesday March 24 to explore the investment opportunities in Nigeria’s single largest investment in youth’s sports development soon to be privatized. The model football academy established by the Kwara state government will on Tuesday hold its special investors day tagged “A day with KFA” at the academy premises, Ilorin.
A day with Kwara Football Academy (KFA) is a opportunity for would be investors, sponsors, scouts, media and other stakeholders to come to the academy and get a hands-on feel of KFA and make an informed decision on what kind of investments in support of the goals and objectives of the academy.
The KFA, which was established in 2005 by the Kwara state government, is the largest single investment in youth sports development in Nigeria and has already gulped more than N1.6 billion according to the state Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Zakari Mohammed. The government has concluded plans to privatize the academy as a way to ensure its long –term sustainability. Run with international best practices, the academy is managed by Dutchman and former Super Eagles successful coach, Clemence Westerhoof.
Expected at the ceremony are no less than 40 leading corporate organizations in Nigeria as well as top government officials and policy makers. These include the Central Bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo; the Minister of Sports and Social Development, Engineer Sani Ndanusa; two former Green/Super Eagles captains Segun Odegami and Austin Jay Jay Okocha. Confirmed corporate investors storming Ilorin for the event are First Bank, Dangote group, GSK, Gaxo, First bank, First City Monument Bank, Intercontinental bank, Cadbury, Friesland WAMCO, Globacom, MTN, Zain and Etisalat. Others are IBTC Chartered bank, Industrial and General Insurance, Sovereign Trust Insurance and Dana Group.
