IN a clear demonstration of its vision to build Africa’s biggest and best telecommunications company, Nigeria’s Second National Operator, Globacom, has clinched the highest and therefore most prestigious sponsorship category for the West African ICT Congress (WAFICT Congress 2009).
Globacom is platinum sponsor for the congress, to be held in Lagos from June 2-4, alongside the ninth edition of West Africa’s leading ICT exhibition, the West African International Telecommunications and Information Communication Technology exhibition (W.Afri.Tel).
WAFICT Congress 2009 is being organised by Africa’s foremost ICT magazine, IT & Telecom Digest, which is also the sole Nigeria Agent for W.Afri.Tel. WAFICT Congress 2009 will draw speakers and participants from across the sub-region and beyond. Participants for the conference will be drawn from operating ICT and telecom companies, GSM and CDMA operators, the banking sector, the legal profession, the oil and gas sector, government agencies, regulatory bodies, consumer advocacy groups, the academia, value added service providers and Internet Service Providers, among others.
Globacom’s sponsorship of the Congress at the highest category goes to underscore the importance the company places in ensuring that the current growth in the telecom sector, especially in West Africa, continues on the upward side.
Although it entered the sector two years after the initial first licences were issued and the winners began operations, Globacom signified it was going to decide and fuel competition in the sector when it pioneered per seconds billing in Nigeria. That singular action changed the game entirely; and Nigerians have continued to see more positive products and services being dished out by the company on a regular basis.
