Dr. Mohammed Barkindo, group managing director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has said that the federal government is determined to continue with the reforms in the oil industry in spite efforts by some people to frustrate it.
Barkindo explained that the institutional framework of the oil and gas reform being guided by the Oil and Gas Implementation Committee (OGIC), would overcome all odds involved in the commercialisation of operations in the sector as well as the review of the upstream and deregulation of the downstream.
The aim, he pointed out, was to put the industry on the path of growth and sustainability in an atmosphere of best practices of international standard. He noted that government was aware of the enormous resistance it is receiving from the domestic parasitic cartel in the sector who have recruited their cohorts to fight against the reform and frustrate government efforts.
According to him, “Government is also aware of the strong resistance in the country by a cartel in the oil and gas sector which has a vested interest in the status quo and the cartel with its collaborators would fiercely resist the reforms.”
He said President Yar’Adua was strongly in support of NNPC and would do everything to proceed with the reform because there was no other option.THE Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has said that the Federal Government is determined to continue with the reforms in the oil industry in spite efforts by some people to frustrate it.
