In a bid to enhance the aesthetic and environmental equity of Nigeria’s capital city, the First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) and United Africa Company (UAC) have indicated interest in partnering with Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in the provision of infrastructure and mass houses in Abuja.
The FCT Executive Council at a meeting held recently approved the guidelines for the private sector participation in the provision of mass houses and infrastructure in the 54 new districts and satellite towns which are yet to be developed.
Adamu Aliero, FCT Minister yesterday while receiving Larry Ettah, Group Managing Director of United Africa Company (UAC) explained that the collaboration was aimed at fast tracking the development of the nation’s capital city.
He said that “the FCT Administration is now in partnership with the First Bank of Nigeria Plc to provide basic infrastructure in the whole of Katampe District of the Federal Capital City and other conglomerates are also welcome in the same vein”.
The minister also reiterated the administration’s decision to collaborate with members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS) in the development of qualitative houses for the residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
He however stressed that government alone cannot provide the basic infrastructure as well as houses for the residents of the Federal Capital Territory but would continue to provide an enabling environment.
Aliero assured that the administration will not condone any form of sharp practices by private developers to develop low standard houses in any of the sites earmarked for the development of mass houses across the territory.
The Minister, who lamented the sub-standard houses in some of the Mass Housing project sites in the Federal Capital Territory, stated that such low quality houses built are unacceptable.
The Minister challenged the UAC to come forward to partner with the FCT Administration to provide secondary and primary infrastructures in an earmarked district for the mutual benefit of all the stakeholders.
Aliero remarked that opportunities are abound in the Federal Capital Territory in Agriculture, Industry as well as Property development and charged the UAC to take advantage.
Speaking earlier, Larry Ettah, UAC Group Managing Director of the United African Company assured the Minister of the readiness of his company to partner with the FCT Administration in the mass housing development.
He however complained of some of their plots that had problems of double allocations and in some cases encroachment by some illegal occupants which he asked the Minister to please intervene.
