A Lagos-based microfinance institution, Accion MFB has unveiled a scheme known as ‘Brighta Future’ for the active poor Nigerians.

A Lagos-based microfinance institution, Accion MFB has unveiled a scheme known as ‘Brighta Future’ for the active poor Nigerians.
The scheme, according to the bank, is a saving account which pays attractive interest rate on customer’s money, helping it grow and making it easier to pay for dream projects such as, school fees, wedding ceremony, motorcycles among others.
While stating the benefits of the scheme, the firm indicated that it would build saving culture in individuals as well as create a doorstep financial service delivery. The account which the bank said is available for individuals, groups, association and so on can also be used as collateral to secure loan.
There is an attractive interest rate of 5 per cent per annum, while uninterrupted savings for a period of nine months or above will attract 7 per cent interest rate per annum, the MFB said. 
To be a beneficiary of the scheme, the bank stated that such individual should open the account with a minimum opening balance of N100, adding that the account should be operated for a minimum of 120 days before any withdrawal can be made.
Equally, the ‘Brighta Saver’ of the firm is a saving account that gives the subscribers control over his money as one can save and withdraw at a convenient period.
“If you save up to N10, 000 in two weeks, you qualify for a loan up to five times the amount you saved,” the bank promised. A minimum opening balance of N500 is expected from the would-be beneficiary, the bank said.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ngozi Portal, chief information officer, Accion Microfinance Bank (AMFB) said, her bank is ready to support small, micro and medium scale businesses in Lagos State to create jobs for Nigerians. Portal who stated this in an interview with BusinessWorld recently, added that the bank has disbursed micro loans running into millions of naira to credit-worthy people with commendable repayment rate.
“We are empowering people especially our loyal customers that have come to access our loans to better their lives,” Portal stated.
The bank’s customer base, according to her, is currently 40,000, stating that plans are on to take her banking services beyond Lagos State.
“We want to take our banking services to rural areas of Lagos State and we are also planning to move outside the state.”
She said with N100 minimum opening balance, an individual can subscribe to the bank’s products and services.
“Accion Microfinance Bank has empowered many lives and the bank would still continue to empower more active poor in order to create employment and contribute immensely to the nation’s GDP,” Portal noted.
